Fundraising

Fundraising, every year, is perceived by teams as one of the biggest struggles they have to face during their Oxfam Trailwalker journeys. But we’ll tell you one thing, fundraising is rather easy - when Passion and Compassion combine, everything is easy!

The minimum fundraising amount of INR 80,000 implies that each team member’s share comes down to just INR 20,000. And the real motivation behind raising these funds keeps the teams charged up - the motivation of changing lives.

1) Your Network is your Net-worth: The easiest way to begin your fundraising campaign is by asking the people closest to you (your friends, families and colleagues) to donate to your cause. Tell them about Oxfam’s work and how your efforts and their contributions will make a difference. Just 20 of these people donating INR 1,000 each means your goal is achieved!

2) No Limit to Networking: Take your networking skills online - use social media channels to reach out to more people. Start a blog on your team's training regime, experiences and anecdotes or keep the excitement going in the form of regular updates via Facebook/ Instagram/Twitter. Let your audience know about the causes close to your heart. Make them a part of your journey of fitness and change.

3) Use your Talents: If you are good with cooking, why not hold a ticketed dinner for your friends? Baking is your thing? Bake cookies or muffins and sell them at your workplace. If your expertise lies in the fitness domain, hold fitness/training sessions for friends, colleagues and family. Sell your art through a home auction, if you are an artist.

4) Crowdfunding Platforms:  Make use of fundraising platforms like Ketto and GoFundMe to amp up your fundraising efforts and to reach your goals faster.

5) How does a Garage Sale sound? Sell off old books, trinkets, furniture you have no use of, clothes you have never worn etc. Again, use digital media channels to spread the message.

6) A Good Old Movie Night: Screen a classic movie over the weekend with some good food, and make your friends pay for entry. They will do so happily!

7) Hold a Recycle Drive: A recycle drive in your locality can be a great way of not just connecting to the neighbours and raising funds, but an effective way to do something for the environment. Ensure that all the material collected is sent to a credible recycling agency.

8) Involve your Clubs and Groups: If you are a part of a running, trekking, acting or dance club, hold a small ticketed event for your cause and be overwhelmed by the support you receive.

Dear [insert name],

Talk about a challenge!

I along with my three friends will be walking 100km to raise money and awareness for Oxfam India. The adventure is called Oxfam India Trailwalker.

Teams of four enter this event and have 48 hours to walk or run the 100km trail, although our team is hoping to finish in 38 hours. It's very likely that we'll walk through the night (with little or no sleep) until the end. The event raises vital funds for Oxfam India and help reduce inequality.

My team [Insert team name] is hoping to raise well over [Insert Fundraising Target] to help India's most poorest.

My Trailwalker team will be going the distance and hope that you can support us in this massive challenge. Please consider how you may be able to get behind us, either by sponsoring us directly or referring us to others. If you would like to sponsor us please follow the link: [Insert team page link]

The work that Oxfam India does is vital to so many people worldwide and 100km is a long way to walk! But putting ourselves through weeks of intense training to walk 100km is worth it, for the impact our fundraising has on others through Oxfam India's programmes.

We ask you to please give generously if you can and consider how your donation can make a real difference.
