Attention to detail goes a long way
The Oxfam Trailwalker is the ultimate team challenge. As a volunteer for the event, it was my duty to make the journey comfortable and hassle-free for the participants, who were walking for equality.
The participants are an inspiration for all of us and I salute their spirit of endurance.
But sometimes some people rise above their normal call of duty to provide exemplary service and lead by example.
I was stationed at Checkpoint 6 for the event. I was stationed at the food counter at the checkpoint. It was a crucial junction of the event, as it served breakfast and dinner.
I was working in tandem with Mr. BD Changappa from Skanda caterer at the check point.
Now, it was amazing to see that he always kept an eye on the depleting quantity of consumables like milk, hot water, coffee powder, sugar and tea sachets.
Throughout the night I never faced a situation wherein I had to find him and ask him to heat some water, or milk or arrange for sugar.
He always kept inspecting on the quantity of the said items and used to prepare the consumables in advance.
As a result we were able to provide nonstop service of tea and coffee throughout the night.
In the middle of the night we ran out of sugar. Without waiting to get instruction from anyone he went to a shop, which was obviously closed at that time. He woke up the shopkeeper and got us some sugar.
I was really surprised by his dedication and thank him for providing such steadfast support to all us on the checkpoint.
