Know about Rules and Regulations

48 Hours, 24 Rules

When you embark on your spirited Trailwalker journey, there are a few rules that will help you in a smoother experience not just for you and your team, but also for us and the other Trailwalkers. Do read and understand all the undermentioned rules prior to the event:

1. All participants must be aged 18 or above on the day of the event.

2. At the start of the event, each team must have four members.

3. Teams must raise a minimum of INR 80,000 in addition to the non-refundable joining contribution of INR 20,000 to participate in the event. Teams must have fundraised at least the minimum fundraising requirement by the stipulated deadlines to be eligible to participate. Donations to Oxfam India are exempted under Section 80G of the Indian Income Tax Act, 1961. Tax exemptions certificates will be issued to Indian taxpayers only against their donations.

4. The identification bibs must be worn at all times during the event to help us identify teams and members.

5. All teams need to check-in at the start point before the event. Only checked-in teams will be allowed to start the event.

6. All team members must stay together between checkpoints and must check-in and check-out together from each checkpoint. Staff at checkpoints will not check-in/-out incomplete teams unless there is an official retirement in the team (Refer to points 9 and 10 below).

7. RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) bands will be worn throughout the event, corresponding to the colour of the bibs.

8. Any participant who is either injured or exhausted must be brought to the nearest checkpoint by team mates for assistance. If the injury is serious, you are requested to follow the emergency procedures. All participants are issued bibs which would have the emergency phone number printed. For any assistance, teams are advised to call the emergency contact number, state the emergency and also the exact location between checkpoints. Teams are advised not to move away from the location after calling the emergency numbers or leave behind the injured team member.

9. Under no circumstances are individuals to be left unaccompanied. If a team member becomes seriously injured and cannot be moved, one person must stay with him or her while the others seek help.

10. Participants wishing to withdraw during the event must first report to the nearest checkpoint. Remaining team members cannot continue until the withdrawal of the team member has been reported.

11. In order to withdraw, the participant must complete a retirement certificate at one of the checkpoints. A team with less than four members cannot continue without a copy of the retirement certificate. This must be presented at each of the remaining checkpoints.

12. If two members of a team have withdrawn, the remaining two members should accompany another team between checkpoints. This is to ensure that all event participants travel in groups of at least three people for safety reasons. This does not mean that team members join another team - each team will retain their identity, team number and bibs throughout the event. The same is strongly recommended for night walks. Always walk with your team, especially during the night sections of the trail; it is advisable to walk with other teams for safety reasons.

13. Teams that fail to depart a checkpoint by the nominated closing time will be withdrawn from the event and will be advised not to proceed. Teams that disregard this advice proceed at their own risk. The closing times are calculated on the basis that there would be insufficient time remaining to complete the event in the specified 48 hours.

14. A team’s finishing time will be recorded when the last member of the team reports to the check-in desk at the finish. Oxfam Trailwalker is a team event. No individual time will be recorded.

15. Oxfam Trailwalker is a challenging team event. Adequate time is necessary for training and fundraising before undertaking it. Therefore, substitution of all four team members is not permitted. No substitutions will be allowed to a team once the team has started the event.

16. Every team is advised to have a support crew and must be self-sufficient. The support crew is responsible for providing teams with their food, water and changes of clothes during the event. Please ensure your support crew is suitably briefed.

17. IMPORTANT: Do not litter - Participants and support crew must respect the environment and local neighborhood by using the litter and recycling bins at the checkpoints.

18. Dogs are not permitted on the trail or at checkpoints. Smoking and consumption of alcohol is strictly forbidden on the trail and at checkpoints.

19. Teams are requested to respect residents and local parking regulations.

20. Participants must keep noise levels to a minimum when walking in residential areas during training and during the event.

21. Each team must carry at least one first aid kit at all times containing as a minimum:
- A compression bandage
- Crepe bandage
- Sterile Dressings
- Antiseptic Wipes
- Assorted Blister Treatments
- Medicines for common fever, cold, stomach upset and other common ailments
- Skin Ointments

22. Additional first aid supplies must be kept with your support crew. The team is responsible for carrying prescribed medications and painkillers.

23. Only complete teams of four finishing within 48 hours will be eligible for official ranking.

24. Slower teams must give way to those teams travelling at a faster pace as the trail can get quite congested at various stretches of the way.
